3.4.2.4. Executing a job without using a nosecone

To be able to engrave without a nosecone it is very important that the engraving table underneath the plate to be engraved is completely flat.
the standard table of the X200 might be flat enough for some applications, but if you need very accurate and equal depths all over the surface of the table, you will need to prepare the engraving table for that.
The best way to achieve this is by applying a piece of phenolic or acrylic material to the engraving table and to flatten this with the engraving spindle.
After having done that the table surface will be flat enough to obtain equal engraving depths all over the surface of the engraving table.
Don’t forget to (temporarily) take away the left and the rear table stops before starting your table mill job.

1.Remove the vacuum hose from the dustboot and the spindle.
2.Remove the nosecone holder ring with the nosecone and the dustboot from the spindle.
3.Screw the spring lock ring down to its limit.
4.Use the X- and the Y-axis jog keys to position the spindle somewhere above the engraving table.
5.Put the material to be engraved on the multimat under the engraving spindle.
6.Place a cutter with cutter knob in the spindle, and try to leave about 15 mm distance between the cutter tip and the plate surface.See image here above.
7.Set the jog speed scale to the lowest position.
8.Move the spindle down and at the same time hold a thin piece of paper under the cutter.
9.Move that piece of paper back and forth while slowly lowering the spindle.See image here above.
10.The moment the cutter tip touches the paper, which can then no longer be moved back and forth, stop pushing the Z-down key.
As an alternative jog the spindle down to the desired position, release the little screw in the cutter knob, gently push the cutter
down till it touches the material and re-tighthen the cutter knob.
11.Push the key to set the plate surface.
12.Push the Enter key in the “set plate surface” window. The plate surface now becomes Z=0.00 and the engraving spindle moves
a little upwards.
