How to use the depth regulator nose

In the previous section you have learnt how to use the depth regulator ring. Take a close look again at the following images:

If you want to engrave using the nosecone, make sure the nosecone retainer ring is positioned as in the image on the far left.
At the same time the black knurled spring pressure ring should be rotated upwards and be positioned as in the third image on the left.

Setting the "Z depth value", "Z lift value" and the "Z lift after setting surface":

Engraving

  1. Using the jog keys move the engraving spindle a few centimeters to the right and the engraving table to the rear. The spindle has to be positioned somewher above the plate to be engraved, but not in the top left corner.
  2. Unscrew the cutter knob with the cutter a little bit (turn the knob clockwise), so that the cutter’s tip does no longer pass through the nosecone.
  3. Press the Z-down key till the nosecone just touches the engraving plate’s surface. Do this using a low jogging speed.
  4. click on the key “set plate surface” (). The following window will be opened:

* The number “9.23” in the image on the left is a random number, it can also be another number, depending on how far you move the spindle down.
* If you now click on the “Enter” button in this window the actual position becomes Z=0.0,
* The spindle then moves 5.0 mm up (if the “Z lift after setting surface” variable is set to 5.00)
* When engraving a job the spindle moves down to Z=0.0 and then 2.0 mm deeper (if the “Z depth value” was set to 2.00)
* The spring pressure system makes the spring compress 2.0 mm.
* Between 2 engraved characters the Z-axis motor will move 6.0 mm up (if the “Z depth value = 2.00” and the “Z lift value = 4.00”).
* Now start your engraving job. At the first Z down move the spindle will reach the material surface. At that point the spindle cannot go any deeper. The Z-motor however rotates a bit further…
* The spindle spring pressure becomes active.
